Season Bests / All Time Top Ten

The season best list has been updated. Two boys' performances this season made the all time top ten list.  Jace Burma hit the 6th best mark in school history at the state meet in the 800 meter run and the Medley unit consisting of Willie Anderson, Dylan Hass, Travis Hass, and Jace Burma ran the 7th best time, also at the state meet in Sioux Falls.

State Track Meet Results

The SBA boys finished 11th as a team at the 2019 State Track Meet at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls.  The boys' medley relay took first with a time of 3:45.05.  Members of that unit were Willie Anderson, Dylan Hass, Ross Engle (first day), Travis Hass, and Jace Burma. The girls scored by finishing 8th in the 4x400 relay, setting a new school record in the process with team members Hannah Appel, Lindsey Wilken, Victoria Paul, and Shariah Brockel.  Other place-winners included Jace Burma, 4th in the 800 meter run, and the boys' 4x800 and 4x400 Relays finished 4th and 5th respectively. State Track Meet Information

The state track meet will be held Friday and Saturday, May 24 & 25, at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls.  The links below give information as to who will participate, meet schedule, and SBA event schedules.  The team will be staying at the Ramada on 12th St.  One reserved room is left for Thursday evening; if you would like it, contact Craig Brockel at the school by Wednesday evening.  We look forward to seeing many of you there.

Region 2B Results

The SBA boys placed 5th as a team and the girls tied for 5th at the Region 2B meet in Gettysburg on Thursday, May 16; windy and cool conditions prevailed on the day.  The boys have five events qualified for the state meet and the girls have three.  Event winners at the region meet were Shariah Brockel in the girls 400 meter dash and the boys 4x800 and 4x400 teams.  Members of the 4x800 team were Jade Burma, Travis Hass, Everett Paul, and Jace Burma.  The 4x400 unit consisted of Willie Anderson, Travis Hass, Jade Burma and Jace Burma.  A summary of qualifiers and links to results are shown below.  Information on the upcoming state track meet in Sioux Falls (May 24-25) will be posted by Monday.

The Region 2B meet will be held in Gettysburg on Thursday, May 16.  Field events begin at 10:30 and the first session of running events is at 11:30.  The second session of running events starts at 1:55.  The setup is linked below.

Central South Dakota Conference Results

Windy, chilly, and wet conditions met the SBA track athletes for much of the day at the Central South Dakota Conference meet in Gettysburg on Saturday, May 11.  Both teams were either short-handed or with limited entries due to injury, but the team performed well.  The girls finished the meet 5th and the boys were 7th in the varsity division.  Middle school results are also linked, and results from both divisions have the girls' and boys' events listed together.  The next meet is Region 2B on Thursday, May 16 in Gettysburg.

281 Conference Results

The SBA girls finished 4th as a team and the boys finished 8th at the 281 Conference meet in Redfield on Tuesday, May 7. Lindsey Wilken was an event winner in the long jump with a leap of 15' 4 1/2", just off a state meet qualifying standard. Shariah Brockel, Travis Hass, and Jace Burma did not compete due to injury.  The next scheduled meet is the CSD Conference meet in Gettysburg on Saturday, May 11. The 281 Conference meet has been moved from Miller to Redfield on Tuesday, May 7.  The field events will start at 10:00 with running events at noon.  Schedule/setup is linked below.

Results - Howard Wood Dakota Relays and 281 Conference Junior High

Results from the Howard Wood Dakota Relays and last Thursday's 281 Conference junior high meet are linked below.  The boys' medley relay unit consisting of Willie Anderson, Dylan Hass, Travis Hass, and Jace Burma took second with a time of 3:44.42, getting edged out for the win by .02.  The girls' medley finished just off a state qualifying time.

Meet Schedule/Setups - Howard Wood Dakota Relays and 281 Conference Junior High

Meet schedules are linked for Thursday's 281 Junior High meet, which was re-scheduled from Monday, April 29.  The setup for the Howard Wood Dakota Relays on Friday and Saturday, May 3&4 is linked with tentative lineups for the relays.  No open events qualified, so only relay units will compete there.

Hamlin Banana Relays Results

The SBA boys picked up three wins in relays and Shariah Brockel placed first in the 400 meter dash at the Hamlin Banana Relays on Tuesday, April 23.  The 4x800 lowered their state qualifying standard to 8:48.5.  That unit consisted of Travis Hass, Everett Paul, Jace Burma, and Jade Burma.  The medley relay also hit a state standard, winning with a time of 3:48.2.  It consisted of Willie Anderson, Dylan Hass, Travis Hass, and Jace Burma.  Results are linked below.

Brace-Hopfinger Relays Results

The track teams competed at Sioux Valley High School in Volga at the Brace-Hopfinger Relays on Tuesday, April 9, 2019.  Conditions challenged the athletes as it was in the 40s and raining lightly.  The meet was called at the conclusion of the 400 meter dash.  The boys team qualified the 4x800 relay for the state meet with a time of 8:50.9.  Members of that unit were Travis Hass, Jade Burma, Everett Paul, and Jace Burma.  The next scheduled meet is Thursday, April 18 in Onida at the Sully Buttes Invitational.  Results of Tuesday's meet are linked below.

Scott Underwood Invitational Results

Results for the Scott Underwood Invitational are linked below.  The meet was held at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex, a 300 meter indoor track facility on the campus of South Dakota State University in Brookings. The boys placed 4th in the 4x400 relay and 6th in the 4x800. Note: The results incorrectly show the 4x400 as finishing 5th overall; 4th and 5th were switched.

The SBA track teams kick off the 2019 season in Brookings on Monday, April 1 at the Scott Underwood Invitational.  The meet is indoors at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex, just north of the football stadium. The meet schedule and times for athletes competing is linked below.

State Track Meet - Day 2 / Final Results

Hot and sunny conditions were again the order of the day as the track teams competed at the state track meet in Rapid City on Saturday, May 26.  The SBA boys finished 8th in the team race with 28 points.  On Saturday, the medley relay team placed 2nd and the 4x400 unit took 3rd.  Those finishes combined with yesterday's performances of 3rd in the 4x800 and Jace Burma's 2nd place finish in the 800.  The girls got on the board when Shariah Brockel placed 6th in the 400 M. dash.  A summary of Saturday's events is shown below, and the results page is linked.

State Track Meet - Day 1 Results

Hot weather conditions met the athletes at the Class B state track and field meet in Rapid City for the first day of competition on Friday, May 25.  SBA qualified three events for Saturday's competition, and Ross Engle is in the high jump on Saturday morning.  On the boys' side, the 4x800 relay team of Jace Burma, Travis Hass, Jade Burma, and Chris Hass placed third with a time of 8:26.15 (all times F.A.T).  Jace Burma placed second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:01.58.  The medley unit of Joel Underwood, Travis Hass, Willie Anderson, and Chris Hass qualified for the final with a time of 3:49.73.  They will have lane 2 in the final.  The 4x400 team won their heat in 3:36.99 and will have lane 3 in the final.  For the girls, Shariah Brockel qualified for the final of the 400 meter dash with a time of 62.65.  A summary of the events is listed below, and the link will take you to results.  I've included a link to the SDPB live stream for tomorrow's events; you should be able to find it there.

State Track Meet Information

The SBA track & field teams will compete in Rapid City at the state track meet on Friday and Saturday, May 25 & 26.  The boys team will be staying in Sturgis on Wednesday night with the girls' leave time yet to be determined.  On Thursday and Friday nights, lodging will be at the Ramada Rapid City on Lacrosse St.; the link below will take you to that web site.  The lineups for the relays on the setup sheet are the six that will be listed on the relay cards, with the finalized groups to be determined.  For the boys, the first four names are the ones that are likely to run in the Friday events.  If you have any questions, you can email me at jamie.mcclain@k12.sd.us or message me on Facebook.  Hope to see a good group of SBA fans in Rapid City.
