Corrected Summaries - 2016 Season

A few corrections have been made to the season ending summary results sheets for the SBA boys' 2016 season.  The names and times have been corrected on the boys' 4x200 on the season best form and the medley unit's performance in the state final made the all-time top ten list, having a different unit member than the one that ran at the Dakota Relays.  The link is on the previous post, but I have also put it on this one.  Have a great summer.

State Track Meet Results and Season Summary

The SBA track teams competed at the state track meet at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls on Friday and Saturday, May 27-28, 2016.  The boys finished tied for 24th with 12 team points.  On Friday the 4x800 unit of Travis Hass, Denver Paul, Jace Burma, and Chris Hass finished 3rd out of the first heat with a time of 8:21.93 (FAT).  The medley team of Willie Anderson, Travis Hass, Chris Hass, and Denver Paul placed 4th on Saturday with a time of 3:45.42 (FAT), and the 4x400 team placed 8th on the basis of their prelim time on Friday.  The meet was pronounced complete just prior to the running of the 4x400 due to concern over potential impending severe weather.  Joseph Lopez finished 19th with a throw of 39' 6.75" in the shot put.

The girls had two events qualified - the 4x800 and Shariah Brockel in the 400.  On Friday the relay team ran a greatly improved time of 10:34.03 (FAT) finished 13th.  Members of that squad were Susan Wilken, Shariah Brockel, Lindsey Wilken, and Renee Seaman.  Brockel had the 13th best time in the prelim of the 400 with a clocking of 63.64.  Individual events are linked below.

State Track Meet Information

The SBA track teams will compete at the state track and field meet in Sioux Falls on May 27-28 at Howard Wood Field.  The team will be staying on Thursday and Friday nights at the Ramada on 12th and Lyons.  One or two rooms may still be available if someone needs a place to stay.  Contact Craig Brockel at the school sometime this week if you would like one.  They will be on a first come first served basis.  Athletes and their events are highlighted on the master schedule for the meet.  Please note that not all the relay unit members are set, and those still need to be finalized.  The names given will be from the six that may be listed for each relay.  Links have also been given for state meet information from the SDHSAA site.  Hope to see many SBA fans this weekend.

Region 2B Results

Strong southerly winds met the track athletes at the Region 2B track meet in Gettysburg on Thursday, May 19.  A number of outstanding performances were turned in by those in events on the straight-a-ways with the wind and in the horizontal jumps, while those run on the backstretch were adversely affected.  On the SBA girls' side, the 4x800 relay qualified for the state meet with a second place finish.  Members of that team were Renee Seaman, Victoria Paul, Lindsey Wilken, and Shariah Brockel.  Brockel also advanced to state in the open 400, coming in second.  The boys' 4x800 relay, which had already qualified for the state meet, took home a first place finish with team members Travis Hass, Denver Paul, Jace Burma, and Chris Hass.  The 4x400 unit of Denver Paul, Willie Anderson, Travis Hass, and Chris Hass advanced with a second place performance.  Joseph Lopez took second in the shot put with a throw of 43' 4 1/2", giving him a spot at the state meet.  The medley relay, previously qualified, will also be entered at the state meet.  Full results are linked below.

Region 2B Setup

The SBA track teams will compete in Gettysburg at the Region 2B track meet on Thursday, May 19. The field events start at 10:30 and running events at 11:30.  The schedule and setup may be accessed at the link below.  For anyone traveling in from the east, there is road construction on Highway 212 near Lebanon, so you might consider an alternate route if you would normally come that way.

281 Conference Results

Weather conditions were ideal for good performances at the 281 Conference track meet on Tuesday, May 10. The SBA teams performed well, the girls placing third and the boys tying for third in the team race. The girls had one event winner. Renee Seaman crossed the line first in 13:31.9. The boys had four event winners. Joseph Lopez won the boys shot put with a throw of 42' 6 1/4". Denver Paul qualified for the state meet in the 400 meter dash with a winning time of 51.7. That time places him third on the all-time top ten list in school history.  The 4 x 200 team of Willie Anderson, Chris Hass, Denver Paul, and Joseph Lopez won with a time of 1:38.3. Finally, the 4 x 400 unit consisting of Denver Paul, Travis Hass, Willie Anderson, and Chris Hass were first with a time of 3:39.0, missing the state qualifying standard by .3. The track teams will next compete on Thursday, May 19 in Gettysburg at the Region 2B track meet.  Full results of the 281 Conference meet are linked below.

Dakota Relays Results

Nine boys and nine girls traveled to Sioux Falls to compete in the Dakota Relays at Howard Wood Field on May 6 & 7, 2016.  Two relay units qualified for the state track meet.  The boys 4x800 unit placed 6th on Friday, May 6 with a time of 8:50.57, hitting the standard by .22 seconds.  Relay members were Chris Hass, Jace Burma, Travis Hass, and Denver Paul.  The boys medley relay team ran well under the standard on Saturday morning, and hitting 5th on the all time top ten list in school history, with a time of 3:44.08.  Members of that unit were Willie Anderson, Joseph Lopez, Chris Hass, and Denver Paul.  Full results can be found at the link.

Miller Invitational Results

The SBA track teams competed at the Miller Invitational on Tuesday, May 3, 2016.  The boys medley relay team missed a state meet qualifying standard by .2 in winning with a time of 3:51.8.  Members of that unit were Willie Anderson, Joseph Lopez, Chris Hass, and Denver Paul.  Complete results are linked below.

Dakota Relays Schedule and Setup

Miller Booster Club Setup

The Miller Booster Club meet will be held Tuesday, April 26 in Miller.  The weather is going to be chilly, so if you come, dress warm.  The events are linked below.

The SBA boys finished 4th and the girls finished 5th at the Kimball/White Lake Invitational on Thursday, April 21st, 2016.  The boys took four events, winning the 3200 and 1600 relays.  Denver Paul won the 300 hurdles and Jace Burma finished first in the 3200 run.  The 4x800 unit consisted of Jace Burma, Chris Hass, Travis Hass, and Denver Paul.  The 4x400 team members were Denver Paul, Travis Hass, Evan Lopez, and Chris Hass.  On the girls' side, Susan Wilken took the 300 hurdles. The varsity track teams next compete in Miller at the Miller Booster Club Meet on Tuesday, April 26.

SBA Invitational Results

The SBA girls' and boys' track teams finished 5th and 7th respectively at the SBA Invitational at Tiger Stadium in Huron on Tuesday, April 12.  Windy conditions challenged the athletes throughout the day, with temperatures moving from the upper 30's in the morning to the 70's by later in the meet.

One relay unit from each team picked up wins on the day.  The girls' 4 x 200 team consisting of Hannah Appel, Staci Seaman, Cailey Banik, and Shariah Brockel was victorious with a time of 1:59.5.  On the boys' side, the 4 x 800 unit of Jace Burma, Denver Paul, Travis Hass, and Christopher Hass won with a time of 9:11.8.  Complete results may be found by hitting the link below.

SBA Invitational Setup

The SBA track teams host the SBA Invitational in Huron on Tuesday, April 12 at Tiger Stadium.  Field events start at 9:30 and running events at 10:30.  A participation setup with schedule and participating schools are linked below.

Central Dakota Results

The SBA track teams kicked off the 2016 season by competing at the Central Dakota meet in Miller on Friday, April 8 on a sunny but breezy day.  Highs were in the low to mid 40's with a chilling NNW breeze.

The girls came away with one first place finish as Renee Seaman won the 1600 meter run.  On the boys' side, the 4x800 team of Chris Hass, Travis Hass, Denver Paul, and Jace Burma took home the gold.  Complete event results are linked below, though as of this writing, team points are not available.  The Crusader track teams next compete in Huron, hosting the SBA Invitational on Tuesday, April 12.
