The track season summary links are given below.  The boys added four performances to the top ten all time list, including a school record at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays in the medley relay.  Shariah Brockel also had a top ten performance in the 400 meter dash.  Girls lists will be added when completed.

State Track Meet - Day 2 / Final Results

Hot and sunny conditions were again the order of the day as the track teams competed at the state track meet in Rapid City on Saturday, May 26.  The SBA boys finished 8th in the team race with 28 points.  On Saturday, the medley relay team placed 2nd and the 4x400 unit took 3rd.  Those finishes combined with yesterday's performances of 3rd in the 4x800 and Jace Burma's 2nd place finish in the 800.  The girls got on the board when Shariah Brockel placed 6th in the 400 M. dash.  A summary of Saturday's events is shown below, and the results page is linked.

State Track Meet - Day 1 Results

Hot weather conditions met the athletes at the Class B state track and field meet in Rapid City for the first day of competition on Friday, May 25.  SBA qualified three events for Saturday's competition, and Ross Engle is in the high jump on Saturday morning.  On the boys' side, the 4x800 relay team of Jace Burma, Travis Hass, Jade Burma, and Chris Hass placed third with a time of 8:26.15 (all times F.A.T).  Jace Burma placed second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:01.58.  The medley unit of Joel Underwood, Travis Hass, Willie Anderson, and Chris Hass qualified for the final with a time of 3:49.73.  They will have lane 2 in the final.  The 4x400 team won their heat in 3:36.99 and will have lane 3 in the final.  For the girls, Shariah Brockel qualified for the final of the 400 meter dash with a time of 62.65.  A summary of the events is listed below, and the link will take you to results.  I've included a link to the SDPB live stream for tomorrow's events; you should be able to find it there.

State Track Meet Information

The SBA track & field teams will compete in Rapid City at the state track meet on Friday and Saturday, May 25 & 26.  The boys team will be staying in Sturgis on Wednesday night with the girls' leave time yet to be determined.  On Thursday and Friday nights, lodging will be at the Ramada Rapid City on Lacrosse St.; the link below will take you to that web site.  The lineups for the relays on the setup sheet are the six that will be listed on the relay cards, with the finalized groups to be determined.  For the boys, the first four names are the ones that are likely to run in the Friday events.  If you have any questions, you can email me at jamie.mcclain@k12.sd.us or message me on Facebook.  Hope to see a good group of SBA fans in Rapid City.

Results - Region 2B

The SBA girls took 5th with 52 points and the boys placed 8th with 44 points at the Region 2B meet in a hot and windy Gettysburg on Thursday, May 17.  The girls qualified three events at the meet.  Shariah Brockel won the 400 meter dash, the girls' medley relay placed second, and Lindsey Wilken placed second in the 300 meter hurdles.  Members of that medley team were Lindsey Wilken, Aja Paul, Victoria Paul, and Shariah Brockel.  For the boys, two additional events were added - Chris Hass, who won the 200 meter dash, and Ross Engle, who placed second in the high jump.  Below is a listing of athletes/events who have qualified for state, as well as links to the meet results.  More information will be forthcoming on the state meet next week in Rapid City.

Region 2B Schedule/Setup

The SBA track teams compete at the Region 2B meet in Gettysburg on Thursday, May 17.  The schedule/setup for the athletes is linked below.  At the regional meet, the top two place-winners in each event qualify for state as well as those who have hit a standard during the season.  Any team not finishing in the top two at tomorrow's meet but still meeting the standard will qualify as well.

Results - Central Dakota Conference

Rainy conditions met the SBA track teams as they arrived in Mobridge for the Central Conference track meet on Saturday, May 12.  Both boys' and girls' teams were missing key members due to absence or injury, so the team points were down.  The athletes did win a few events.  Shariah Brockel won the girls' 800 meter run as did Chris Hass in the boys' race.  Willie Anderson also finished first in the 400 meter run.  Results are linked below.  The track teams next compete at the Region 2B meet in Gettysburg on Thursday, May 17.

Results - 281 Conference

The boys' track team finished 4th and the girls finished 5th at the 281 Conference track meet in Huron on Tuesday, May 8.  Temperatures in the low 80s and some breeze from the south presented some challenges, but the athletes turned in some good performances.  The girls' 4x400 team consisting of Victoria Paul, Lindsey Wilken, Becca Hofman, and Shariah Brockel took home a first place finish.  On the boys' side, the 4x800 and 4x400 units won, as did Chris Hass in the open 200 meter dash.  The track teams will finish the regular season on Saturday, May 12 in Mobridge at the Central South Dakota Conference meet.  The Region 2B meet in Gettysburg will be Thursday, May 17 followed by the state meet on May 25 and 26.

281 Conference Schedule/Setup

The track teams will compete at the 281 Conference Track and Field Meet in Huron on Tuesday, May 8.  The schedule and setup for SBA athletes is posted below.

Results - Howard Wood Dakota Relays

Great weather allowed the track teams achieve some good performances in Sioux Falls at the Howard Wood-Dakota Relays on Friday and Saturday, May 4 & 5.  The boys' medley relay set a new school record, the oldest boys' relay record, winning with a time of 3:40.49 (F.A.T. timing).  Members of that unit were Willie Anderson, Joel Underwood, Chris Hass, and Jace Burma. They broke the record set in 1988 by Dale Shippy, Garry Weems, Grant Miller, and Mike Hettich. The boys 4x800 placed 5th with a time of 8:37.22.  The girls' and boys' 4x400 teams were not able to compete due to the meet cancellation in the afternoon.  The track teams will compete in Huron on Tuesday, May 8 at the 281 Conference Meet.  Results from the Dakota Relays are linked below.

Results - Jimmy Rearick Invitational and Miller Invitational

The SBA track teams competed at the Jimmy Rearick Wolsey-Wessington Invitational on Friday, April 27 and the Miller Invitational on Tuesday, May 1. The boys' 1600 relay hit a state meet qualifying standard of 3:38.7 in winning at the Rearick meet and followed that up on Tuesday by lowering it to 3:35.6.  Jace Burma hit a state meet standard in the 800 meter run at the Miller Invitational, placing second with a time of 2:04.3.  Results are linked below.  Several athletes will compete this Friday and Saturday, May 4 & 5, in the Dakota Relays at Howard Wood in Sioux Falls.  I have also included a link to the state qualifiers page. You will need to select Class B Boys or Girls.

Results - Hamlin Banana Relays

A cold, blustery day met the track athletes in Hayti at the Banana Relays on Tuesday, April 24, but several solid performances were turned in.  Lindsey Wilken was 1st in the girls' long jump, was 2nd in the 300 hurdles, and 3rd in the 200 meter dash.  Ruthe Lopez took 2nd in the discus and 3rd in shot put.  Jace Burma took home three first place finishes on the boys' side, winning the 800 and 1600 runs, and was a member of the winning 4x400 relay with teammates Willie Anderson, Jade Burma, and Chris Hass.  Hass and Anderson placed 3rd and 4th respectively in the 400 meter dash as well.  Ross Engle placed 4th in the high jump and Everett Paul was T6.  The track teams are next scheduled to compete in the Jimmy Rearick Wolsey-Wessington Invitational in Miller on Friday, April 27.

Results - Ipswich Tiger Relays

The track teams competed at the Tiger Relays in Ipswich on Saturday, April 21.  No team points were kept, but the athletes turned in some good performances.  The boys' medley relay qualified for the state track meet with a winning time of 3:52.6.  The unit consisted of Willie Anderson, Joel Underwood, Chris Hass, and Jace Burma.  The boys' 4x800 and 4x400 teams both finished 2nd.  On the girls' side, Lindsey Wilken qualified for the state meet with a 3rd place leap of 15' 9 in the long jump.  The track teams will next compete at the Banana Relays, hosted by Hamlin High School, on Tuesday, April 24.  Results from the Ipswich Tiger Relays are linked below.

DeSmet Booster Club Invitational

The SBA track teams competed at the DeSmet Booster Club meet on Thursday, April 12 on a cool and cloudy day, with highs in the 40s.  The juniors and seniors had to leave early, so competition was limited.  One relay unit, the boys' 4x800 relay, qualified for the state track meet with a time of 8:44.6.  Members of that were Travis Hass, Chris Hass, Jade Burma, and Jace Burma.  Future meets look to be subject to weather, as more cold and snow is anticipated.  Meet results are linked below.
