Results - Central Dakota Conference

Rainy conditions met the SBA track teams as they arrived in Mobridge for the Central Conference track meet on Saturday, May 12.  Both boys' and girls' teams were missing key members due to absence or injury, so the team points were down.  The athletes did win a few events.  Shariah Brockel won the girls' 800 meter run as did Chris Hass in the boys' race.  Willie Anderson also finished first in the 400 meter run.  Results are linked below.  The track teams next compete at the Region 2B meet in Gettysburg on Thursday, May 17.

Results - 281 Conference

The boys' track team finished 4th and the girls finished 5th at the 281 Conference track meet in Huron on Tuesday, May 8.  Temperatures in the low 80s and some breeze from the south presented some challenges, but the athletes turned in some good performances.  The girls' 4x400 team consisting of Victoria Paul, Lindsey Wilken, Becca Hofman, and Shariah Brockel took home a first place finish.  On the boys' side, the 4x800 and 4x400 units won, as did Chris Hass in the open 200 meter dash.  The track teams will finish the regular season on Saturday, May 12 in Mobridge at the Central South Dakota Conference meet.  The Region 2B meet in Gettysburg will be Thursday, May 17 followed by the state meet on May 25 and 26.

Results - Howard Wood Dakota Relays

Great weather allowed the track teams achieve some good performances in Sioux Falls at the Howard Wood-Dakota Relays on Friday and Saturday, May 4 & 5.  The boys' medley relay set a new school record, the oldest boys' relay record, winning with a time of 3:40.49 (F.A.T. timing).  Members of that unit were Willie Anderson, Joel Underwood, Chris Hass, and Jace Burma. They broke the record set in 1988 by Dale Shippy, Garry Weems, Grant Miller, and Mike Hettich. The boys 4x800 placed 5th with a time of 8:37.22.  The girls' and boys' 4x400 teams were not able to compete due to the meet cancellation in the afternoon.  The track teams will compete in Huron on Tuesday, May 8 at the 281 Conference Meet.  Results from the Dakota Relays are linked below.

Results - Jimmy Rearick Invitational and Miller Invitational

The SBA track teams competed at the Jimmy Rearick Wolsey-Wessington Invitational on Friday, April 27 and the Miller Invitational on Tuesday, May 1. The boys' 1600 relay hit a state meet qualifying standard of 3:38.7 in winning at the Rearick meet and followed that up on Tuesday by lowering it to 3:35.6.  Jace Burma hit a state meet standard in the 800 meter run at the Miller Invitational, placing second with a time of 2:04.3.  Results are linked below.  Several athletes will compete this Friday and Saturday, May 4 & 5, in the Dakota Relays at Howard Wood in Sioux Falls.  I have also included a link to the state qualifiers page. You will need to select Class B Boys or Girls.

Results - Hamlin Banana Relays

A cold, blustery day met the track athletes in Hayti at the Banana Relays on Tuesday, April 24, but several solid performances were turned in.  Lindsey Wilken was 1st in the girls' long jump, was 2nd in the 300 hurdles, and 3rd in the 200 meter dash.  Ruthe Lopez took 2nd in the discus and 3rd in shot put.  Jace Burma took home three first place finishes on the boys' side, winning the 800 and 1600 runs, and was a member of the winning 4x400 relay with teammates Willie Anderson, Jade Burma, and Chris Hass.  Hass and Anderson placed 3rd and 4th respectively in the 400 meter dash as well.  Ross Engle placed 4th in the high jump and Everett Paul was T6.  The track teams are next scheduled to compete in the Jimmy Rearick Wolsey-Wessington Invitational in Miller on Friday, April 27.

Results - Ipswich Tiger Relays

The track teams competed at the Tiger Relays in Ipswich on Saturday, April 21.  No team points were kept, but the athletes turned in some good performances.  The boys' medley relay qualified for the state track meet with a winning time of 3:52.6.  The unit consisted of Willie Anderson, Joel Underwood, Chris Hass, and Jace Burma.  The boys' 4x800 and 4x400 teams both finished 2nd.  On the girls' side, Lindsey Wilken qualified for the state meet with a 3rd place leap of 15' 9 in the long jump.  The track teams will next compete at the Banana Relays, hosted by Hamlin High School, on Tuesday, April 24.  Results from the Ipswich Tiger Relays are linked below.

DeSmet Booster Club Invitational

The SBA track teams competed at the DeSmet Booster Club meet on Thursday, April 12 on a cool and cloudy day, with highs in the 40s.  The juniors and seniors had to leave early, so competition was limited.  One relay unit, the boys' 4x800 relay, qualified for the state track meet with a time of 8:44.6.  Members of that were Travis Hass, Chris Hass, Jade Burma, and Jace Burma.  Future meets look to be subject to weather, as more cold and snow is anticipated.  Meet results are linked below.

State Track Meet Results

The SBA track teams competed at the South Dakota State track and field meet in Sioux Falls on Friday and Saturday, May 26 & 27.  The boys finished with 16 team points, good for a tie for 18th in the team race.  They did all their scoring in  three relays, the 4x800 (3rd), medley (3rd), and 4x400 (5th).  Links to the events are provided below, and a summary of the events for boys and girls participants is as follows:

Region 2B Results

The SBA track teams competed in Gettysburg at the Region 2B meet on Thursday, May 18, 2017.  The girls finished 5th in the team race with 55 points.  The medley relay came away with a first place finish and state meet qualification in a time of 4:38.1.  Members of that unit were all freshmen -  Maggie Kondra, Leigha Banik, Lindsey Wilken, and Shariah Brockel.  Brockel also qualified for state in the 400 meter dash with a time of 64.2.  The SBA boys finished 9th with a total of 28 points.  Competing without Jace Burma, the medley team consisting of Willie Anderson, Ross Engle, Travis Hass, and Chris Hass won with a time of 3:54.6.  The state qualifying events are listed below; information on schedule and other details pertaining to the state meet will be posted early next week.  Also, results from last Saturday's CSD Conference meet in Miller are linked below, as well as Thursday's regional results.

The track teams had good weather conditions once again and performed well at the 281 Conference meet in Huron on May 9.  Both teams finished 4th in the team race.  The girls had a first place finish in the 4x400 relay with team members Susan Wilken, Lindsey Wilken, Victoria Paul, and Shariah Brockel.  Their time was 4:28.2.  The boys took first place finishes in the 4x800 and 4x400 relays in addition to Jace Burma's wins in the 1600 and 800 meter runs.  The 4x800 team consisted of Chris Hass, Jade Burma, Ben Deal and Travis Hass.  The 4x400 unit included Chris Hass, Willie Anderson, Travis Hass, and Jace Burma.  The final meet of the regular track season is Saturday, May 13 in Miller at the Central South Dakota Conference meet.  SBA is a new member of that conference in track and field.  Results from the 281 Conference meet are linked below.

Members of the SBA track teams competed at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls on May 5 & 6.  The boys placed three relay teams with a 4th in the medley relay, 6th in the 4x800, and 7th in the 4x400.  The girls teams had some solid performances in the 4x800 and medley relays, just missing a state meet qualifying standard in the medley.  Below is a link to the results page. The SBA track teams will compete this Friday and Saturday, May 5 & 6, at the Dakota Relays at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls.  They will be staying at the Ramada Inn at 12th and Lyons, just off I-29.  It looks like it will be sunny and on the warm side, so if you come, bring some sun screen. Miller Invitational Results

Great conditions and good competition met the SBA track teams as they competed at Miller Invitational on Tuesday, May 2, and performances reflected that.  The girls' 4x800 team of Susan Wilken, Lindsey Wilken, Victoria Paul, and Shariah Brockel hit a state meet qualifying standard in winning that event with a time of 10:30.8.  On the boys' side, Willie Anderson, Chris Hass, Travis Hass, and Jace Burma hit standard in winning the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:37.5.  Jace Burma hit qualifying standards as he placed 3rd in the 1600 and 800 runs with times of 4:39.3 and 2:06.2 respectively.  Chris Hass was just off standard in the 400 meter dash with a winning time of 52.7, and he also just missed in the 800 by posting a time of 2:06.5 and finishing 4th.  No team scores were kept.  The track teams will next compete at the Dakota Relays at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls on Friday and Saturday, May 5 & 6.

Chilly conditions with 10-20 MPH winds from the northeast met the SBA track teams in Miller at the Jimmy Rearick Wolsey-Wessington Invitational on Friday, April 28.  Both girls' and boys' teams finished 5th out of 12 teams competing, with the boys winning three events and the girls one.  Shariah Brockel won the girls' 400 meter dash, while the boys had two individual winners - Chris Hass (400) and Jace Burma (800); Burma just edged Hass at the line in the 800 run.  The boys' 1600 relay unit of Travis Hass, Chris Hass, Willie Anderson, and Jace Burma won with a time of 3:42.7.  The next meet will be on Tuesday in Miller at the Miller Invitational.
